The Idea

12 Million Women is an online community for women who are aspiring to, or practicing in, a career in project management. Our aim is to become the global destination for women to connect with each other, learn from each other, support each other, and grow the opportunity for more women to join the profession or learn project management skills.

To bring this community to life we have assembled a team of remarkable women in, and aspiring to, careers in project management who have supported the founding of the community and provide ongoing guidance, oversight, mentorship, learning, and passion.

When they aren’t sharing their unique experience and wisdom in the community, these incredible women can be found advocating for women in project management and successful women entrepreneurship.

Kelley brings a sense of curiosity and creativity to all endeavours, and she loves the art of photography, storytelling and being a lifelong learner.

    Megan Johnston BSc, PMP, PSM-I

    Megan’s career in project management began as an accident when her boss at the time invited her to “manage a few research initiatives”...truthfully it was love at first sight. After 6 years cutting her teeth in junior roles, Megan obtained her PMP certification and never looked back. Now in her 18th year in the profession and, closing up her 12th year as a PMP, Megan has worked in many different areas of technical project management and health research as well as in video games, container shipping, and artificial intelligence. Trained as a biochemist, Megan’s true passion comes from helping organizations find their ideal chemistry to deliver strategic success; and from helping women in the profession grow project management and entrepreneurial skills.

    Natalia is an accomplished Project Management Professional with over twenty years of experience in project, program, and project portfolio management across Manufacturing, Metals & Mining, Logistics, IT, Electronic Payments, and Consumer industries. Natalia‘s particular focus has been on business and IT transformations with a successful track record in both. Currently, Natalia is a Head of Project Management Office at CSM Ingredients, a global ingredient-tech company that develops solutions for the food industry.

Her education is in Computer Engineering and she spent over a decade working in Silicon Valley before returning to Canada. She is passionate about open source development, the environment, and water sports.

Additionally, she is the author of "Self-Advocacy: An Endometriosis Survival Guide" and an avid mountain biker with 16 years of racing, coaching, and exploring spectacular locations.

Her recent work involves integrating sustainability into project management to drive impactful, long-term solutions.

    With more than 25 years of experience in development, business analysis, project & program management, operations, strategy and chief of staff roles, Raquel is currently a Project & Program Management Coach & Consultant and Co-Founder of a services company. 

    Working with dozens of companies has taught her the ins and outs a project / program manager needs in their arsenal to deliver the result. Now, she shares the knowledge she has accumulated over the years to help simplify project and program management for new professionals. She aims to grow inspiring, influential leader who drive success in every project/program.

  • Dr. Tonya Smith, PMP

    Tonya is a seasoned project management expert and educator with a robust background in organizational leadership and strategic change. As an adjunct professor and project management leader, she has taught at institutions like American Public University System and the University of Arizona Global Campus, specializing in courses such as Leadership in Project Management. With extensive experience managing high-impact projects across sectors, including state government and global procurement, Dr. Smith has consistently driven initiatives to improve operational efficiencies, elevate project outcomes, and foster diversity in the workforce. Her passion for empowering women project managers aligns seamlessly with the vision of recruiting 12 million women into project management, contributing her expertise to inspire and guide the next generation of female leaders in this field.
